Merakli rast manes - Afiste me na kaigomai

Part of the content is temporarily available only in Greek

The musicologist Spilios Kounas, in the musicological analysis-documentation (prepared in the framework of the scholarship program of the Kounadis Archive) regarding the recordings of the song "Rast manes", which is part of the Kounadis Archive Virtual Museum, states the following:

"'Afiste me na kaigomai monos kai monachos mou, giati einai o ponos mou polys megalos o kaimos mou'" ('Let me burn all alone, because my pain and my sorrow are great')

It is a recording in which a Politiki lyra (classical kemençe), performed by Lampros Leontaridis, can be heard, something that emerges from a relevant exclamation during the recording. The recording also includes an oud that we can assume with relative certainty that is played by Agapios Tompoulis, both due to the performance style and the fact that he collaborated with Leontaridis in Eskenazy’s recordings that took place during the same period. It is a cover that follows the stylistic and aesthetic standards of the improvisational (a)manes. The main melodic development is monophonic and evolves successively by the performer and the musical instruments without the existence of rhythmic and harmonious support. The recording is completed with a short instrumental final melodic theme by the Politiki lyra (classical kemençe) which supports the oud with a harmonic-rhythmic motif."
