INTERNATIONAL REPERTOIRE

Greek singers and musicians started recording songs of other nationalities, along with Greek ones, from the beginning of the 20th century; this was before there was even a production of records in Greece, where discography had slowly started developing. In New York, Constantinople (Istanbul), Smyrna (Izmir), Cairo and even Vienna, Milan or Berlin, and of course in the following years in Athens, records of “Greek interest”, that were based on foreign hit songs or even transpositions of classical pieces, were recorded and released. Most of these songs had Greek lyrics for the occasion almost since the beginning; in fact, as the years went by, specific lyricists started to specialize in this kind of writing… But there were also songs of  “Greek discographical interest” in other languages… In our portfolio, many songs appear in Turkish, but also some in Russian or in the Spanish-Hebrew dialect…
