The recording was made in Athens in 1957, featuring Stefanos Paschalis as the singer and a popular orchestra with Filippos Rountas on clarinet. It includes the song “Kato stin Agia Marina,” which is found in various versions in Eastern Thrace under the title “Kato stin Agia Marini,” in Epirus in the Pogoni region, and in Chalkidiki. According to the record label, the song is attributed to Stefanos Paschalis.

In Greek historical discography, the earliest recording of one of the versions of the song is identified in the recording titled “I Tasoula”. It was made on September 20, 1912, in Constantinople by the Zounarakis Estudiantina [Concert Record Gramophone 17361u – 4-14503, and reissued by Victor (65982-B)]. The song was also recorded in 1930 in Athens by Ilias Litos on clarinet and Lazaros Rouvas on lute under the title “Kato stin Agia Marina – Dance of Epirus” (Pathé X-80217 – 70300).

This tune, in its present “Epirote” version, is also found in Albanian discography. In the 1930s, the group of Albanian clarinetist Selim Efendi, also known as Selim Asllan Tare, Selim Leskoviku, or Selim Stambolli, a member of the  Leskoviku musical family from the town of Leskovik in southern Albania, recorded probably in Constantinople the instrumental song “Kato stin aya marina” (Polydor 1183 BN – 51112). In the mid to late 1940s, Ajdin Asllan on the lute and Gernet on the violin recorded the tune in New York under the title “Valle e shtruar” (Me Re Record Co. 512-A and Balkan 512-A).

The tune was recorded in Cairo during the 1920s by the clarinetist Ivraimakis under the title “Arvanitikos Agia Marina” (Fabrik Mechian m983–1016). The instrumental recording is included on the CD accompanying the highly interesting book “Egypt: The Musical Life of the Greeks”, published in 2025 by Aristomenis Kalyviotis. Regarding Ivraimakis, the author observes (2025: 122) that listening to the present recording and the one included on the reverse side of the record (“Arvanitikos Meriola”, m984–1017) “creates the impression that he is documenting material from the musical culture of his birthplace. This, combined with the fact that he is addressed as ‘Ibraïmi’ (‘Syrtos Ballos’, No. 1007/m1007), leaves open the possibility that he was either a Turco-Albanian or a Turkish Gypsy musician from the region of Epirus.”

From the findings in discography, it is clear that the tune, in its various version, is still active, producing new performances and arrangements. For example:

Finally, of particular interest is the performance of the song by Pauline Willerval (vocals and gadulka) and Jean Le Floc'h (accordion). The song was recorded at the Saint-Urfold Chapel in Brest on 26 October 2023 and was released under the title
"Kato stin Agia Marina / Κάτω στην Αγιά Μαρίνα".
